Why the numbers are important

Heart Health Numbers

High Blood Pressure is sometimes referred to as ‘The Silent Killer’. Yeesh, that’s dramatic – but sadly not inaccurate. According to the American Heart Association, here’s why:

  • Many people with high blood pressure don’t even know they have it. Often the signs and symptoms are misunderstood.
  • High blood pressure develops slowly over time and can be related to many causes.
  • High blood pressure cannot be cured. But it can be managed effectively.

Diabetes Numbers

“If glucose levels get too low, we can lose the ability to think and function normally. If they get too high and stay high, it can cause damage or complications to the body over the course of many years.” – American Diabetes Association

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like either of those options. Let’s not let either of them happen.

Monitoring blood Pressure Properly

It seems like a simple thing to monitor at home, right? Just buy a machine, or got to a pharmacy with a self blood monitoring station, slap on the cuff, let it squeeze your arm for a few seconds – done! Now hold on, it actually isn’t that simple, but once you learn the right way to do it, it definitely can be.

Monitoring Diabetes Numbers

There’s two important numbers to monitor when it comes to Diabetes, your Blood Glucose (Sugar) levels, and your AC1 number. Daily blood glucose monitoring helps you make choice that should keep either of these two situations from happening:

Hyperglycemia: High blood glucose

Hypoglycemic: Low blood sugar

The AC1 blood test is something your doctor performs, and it’s important to monitor because it can not only indicate pre-diabetes, high levels of this can predict your risk of complications from diabetes.
